The Endicott Lions Club stopped by George F. Johnson Elementary School today to provide free eye screenings for students.
Club members used a Welch Allyn vision screener — a device that quickly detects common vision problems in children.
Students who showed potential issues were referred for follow-up care.
For families without vision insurance, the club is offering vouchers that cover the cost of an eye exam and a pair of glasses — up to $250 in value.
Screenings will continue through Wednesday.
The Endicott Lions Club is part of Lions Clubs International, a global organization dedicated to community service and supporting those in need.
“As a former educator, vision for kids is extremely important. The earlier we can get in and do screenings — and get kids glasses if they need them at the earliest possible age — the more it benefits them in their education,” said David Hubman, president of the Endicott Lions Club.
