Eni and Seri Industrial Launch 8 GWh Battery Project in Brindisi

Eni and Seri Industrial have launched operations at Eni Storage Systems, their joint venture dedicated to producing stationary lithium batteries in Brindisi, Italy. The company is jointly owned by Eni (50% plus one share) and Seri’s subsidiary Fib (50% minus one share).

The Brindisi hub is designed to produce more than 8 GWh per year of lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries for energy storage, using a water-based manufacturing process. The project is currently in the engineering phase and undergoing economic, financial, and regulatory reviews, with completion of this stage targeted for the first quarter of 2026, before full-scale execution begins.

Part of Eni’s broader industrial transformation plan, the initiative underscores the group’s commitment to sustainable industrial development and its ongoing partnership with Seri Industrial. Alongside Brindisi, Fib is also building a new plant in Teverola, Caserta, which, together with the Brindisi facility, will form an integrated Italian battery hub.

Beyond battery production, the Brindisi site will manufacture cathode active material for LFP batteries and assemble batteries into Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). These systems will serve both the Brindisi facility and the Teverola plants. Looking ahead, the Brindisi hub will also incorporate battery recycling, ensuring a closed-loop supply chain.

The goal of Eni and Seri Industrial is to capture more than 10% of the European stationary battery market, positioning Italy as a leader in advanced storage technologies. With combined production, assembly, and recycling capabilities, the Brindisi–Teverola cluster is set to become a state-of-the-art European hub supporting the energy transition.
