QatarEnergy Signs Guyana Production Sharing Agreement

QatarEnergy has signed a Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) for the shallow-water Block S4 offshore the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, awarded as part of the 2022 Guyana Licensing Round. Under the deal, QatarEnergy will hold a 35% interest, alongside operator TotalEnergies with 40% and PETRONAS with 25%.

His Excellency Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, said the new partnership marks another milestone in the company’s efforts to expand its global upstream footprint. “We are pleased to secure this exploration block in Guyana, further building on our strategy to expand our global upstream exploration activities,” he stated, thanking the Guyanese government and partners for their cooperation and support.

Block S4 covers an area of 1,788 square kilometers and lies around 50–100 kilometers off Guyana’s coast in water depths of 30–100 meters. The block’s location, close to shore and near proven geological trends, makes it a strategically attractive prospect.

Guyana has become one of the world’s most dynamic energy frontiers, following a series of major offshore discoveries that have reshaped its economy and attracted top global energy players. The 2022 Licensing Round offered both shallow- and deep-water blocks to encourage diversified participation and strengthen the country’s exploration base.

For QatarEnergy, the agreement reinforces its strategy of targeting high-potential regions and expanding its presence across the Americas. The company already holds upstream positions in Suriname and Brazil, and the Guyana venture further cements its role as a key investor in the region’s growing energy landscape.

The partnership also underscores Guyana’s commitment to fostering a competitive, transparent investment climate as it balances rapid sector growth with responsible resource development and long-term energy ambitions.
